Sustainable School, Canterbury

3rd in RIBA Ideas Competition

This scheme was an RIBA ideas competition for sustainable educational design. It proposed a fabric covered 2 storey courtyard, enclosed by an L-shaped building housing the facilities of the school. The communal functions such as the gymnasium, library and dining area, are housed at the ends of the wings with teaching facilities between. The classrooms are simple rectangular forms which open up onto the courtyard. The judging panel described 3WA’s designs as ‘ingenious’ and ‘successfully resolved’, ‘an exciting proposal, exploring future teaching and learning potential.’
